\Hong Kong stocks finished the morning session with small gains on Tuesday, in line with advances across Asia following a positive lead from Wall Street.

The Hang Seng Index edged up 0.1 percent, to 28,402 by the break.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.4 percent, to moved at 2,897, while the Shenzhen Composite Index rose 0.6 percent, to 1,542.

Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei index jumped nearly 1 percent as chip-related shares surged, taking a positive lead from rallies in US tech stocks.

The Nikkei 225 index closed at 21,620.

Sydney and Singapore each added 0.4 percent while Seoul gained 0.5 percent. Wellington, Taipei and Jakarta were also in positive territory. (AFP)
