Hong Kong stocks were slightly higher by the break on Tuesday, tracking a record performance on Wall Street, though investors were awaiting progress on a much-needed new US stimulus package.
The Hang Seng Index added 0.2 percent, or 38 points, to 25,385.
Elsewhere in Asia, stocks drifted with traders struggling to build on the previous day's broad advance, with confidence kept in check by ongoing China-US tensions.
Shanghai was slightly higher, having enjoyed a healthy rally on Monday, while Sydney and Singapore edged up slightly.
Manila and Jakarta were also higher while Wellington jumped more than one percent again after the government delayed New Zealand's general election by four weeks owing to a new virus flare-up in the country.
Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei were all lower. (AFP)
