Hong Kong and mainland shares ended with deep losses on Wednesday as global markets went into reverse following another rout on Wall Street.
The Hang Seng Index fell 0.63 percent, or 155 points, to 24,468.
The HSI faced pressure as investors sold tech firms amid a US selloff and persistent Sino-American tensions, KGI Securities noted in report, adding the index could find support at 24,000 points.
The brokerage noted limited room for a further rally in China's domestic banks listed in Hong Kong, given the heavy pressure from bad loans in coming quarters
Across the border, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index tumbled 1.86 percent, or 61 points, to close at 3,254, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China's second exchange plunged 3 percent, or 72 points, to 2,175.
Regional shares were also spared, with the Nikkei index in Japan down by more than 1 percent. (AFP/Reuters)
