Hong Kong shares finished lower on Wednesday, ending a two-day rally.
The Hang Seng Index opened higher but couldn't keep the momentum going.
It closed down 33 points or 0.13 percent at 25,693 on profit-taking.
Turnover was HK$163.3 billion.
Despite Wall Street hitting a new high overnight, dealers said investors were looking ahead to an American Federal Reserve gathering later this week for an update on US stimulus.
The Shanghai Composite Index added 0.74 percent, the CSI300 was up 0.2 percent, and the Shenzhen Component Index climbed 0.23 percent.
Taiwan shares gained 1.3 percent.
The Nikkei in Japan edged slightly lower, the Kospi in South Korea inched higher, and Australian stocks put on 0.39 percent.
