Hong Kong stocks pared some of its losses on Tuesday afternoon, after having fluctuated throughout the morning as investors returned after the Easter break amid rising US-China trade tension.
The Hang Seng Index was down 0.6 per cent, to 29,906 in early afternoon trading on Tuesday. It was down more than 1 percent at one point.
On the mainland, the Shanghai Composite Index was down 1.2 percent while the Shenzhen Composite Index slipped 1.3 percent to 1,833.
Tokyo stocks closed lower, with the benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipping 0.5 percent, to 21,292.
Wall Street stocks plunged Monday as weakness in technology shares sparked a broader sell-off amid rising fears of a trade war with China.
Those anxieties were back in focus after China slapped retaliatory tariffs on 128 US exports, including 25 percent on pork products and recycled aluminium. (AFP)
