In a sign that the mainland's manufacturing sector may be recovering, the closely-watched purchasing managers' index came in at 50.5 for March, according to data released on Sunday by the National Bureau of Statistics.

That compares to 49.2 for February.

Meanwhile the purchasing managers' index for the mainland's non-manufacturing sector came in at 54.8 for March, up from 54.3 in February.
