Post Office Staff Test Negative
Hongkong Post today said 200 staff including postmen and supporting staff working at the General Post Office (GPO) Delivery Office all tested negative for COVID-19.
The department made the statement in response to media enquiries about the case of a postman at the GPO Delivery Office testing positive for COVID-19.
After learning about the postman's positive result on the night of December 13, the department immediately arranged COVID-19 testing for 200 GPO Delivery Office staff.
As advised by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), staff with negative results can resume duty.
Delivery services for the districts including Admiralty, the Peak, the Mid-levels, Central, Sheung Wan, Sai Ying Poon and Kennedy Town will gradually resume as normal tomorrow.
As per the CHP's advice, six postmen who worked within 2m of the infected postman's workbench have been placed under home quarantine for 14 days, regardless of their negative results.
The department arranged a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the workplace and all public facilities concerned. Supervisors were also instructed to notify all GPO Delivery Office staff members and those on the overnight shift working on other floors of the case.
COVID-19 testing had been arranged for frontline staff in late August and early December.
Following the testing conducted for staff working at the GPO, the department will soon arrange another round of voluntary testing for frontline staff of other working locations.
