Hong Kong's aviation regulator is demanding more details of the financial situation of Hong Kong Airlines, after the carrier denied reports it was on the brink of collapse.
The Air Transport Licensing Authority said it had reviewed the latest information it had received from Hong Kong Airlines at a meeting on Monday, but was seeking further clarification and supplementary information.
Hong Kong Airlines, which is controlled by the troubled mainland conglomerate HNA Group, has seen a number of senior executives depart in recent months. However, it insists it is not in danger of ceasing operations, adding that as a private company, it does not "disclose its financial performance publicly nor comment on market rumours or media speculation".
It has described speculation about its future as "untrue and groundless".
