  • Tourist arrivals to see a bust after the boom

The Tourism Board said on Monday that annual visitors number will go from boom to bust this year, after witnessing a record 11 percent growth last year.

This board predicts this year it expects 66 million to visit the city – a rise of mere a 2 percent from the 65 million that poured into the city last year.

Officials also expect tourists to spend less and for the trend towards short stays to continue.

The board's executive director, Anthony Lau, said the strong Hong Kong dollar may put off some visitors.

Lau said a possible waning in the novelty factor of the Express Rail and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge could also affect this year's estimates.
