The Federal Reserve said on Wednesday that the US economy was showing signs of progress - but not enough to end the easy money policies implemented last year.

Widespread vaccinations have helped boost the economy and employment, but sectors hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic "have not fully recovered," the central bank's policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) announced following its two-day meeting.

Risks to the outlook remain and the FOMC said it will monitor the economy's progress before pulling back on its bond-buying programme. (AFP)
